CARDIEL is a two-piece rock band originally formed in Mexico City in 2010 by drummer Samantha Ambrosio and guitarist/vocalist Miguel Fraíno. Their style contains elements of skate rock, fuzz punk and psychedelic dub. They tour constantly across México and have played shows and festivals internationally. Samantha and Miguel have known each other from their hometown Valencia, Venezuela since the late 90s. But it wasn’t until they moved to México that they started making music for some skateboarding videos. After this they decided to consolidate the band and name it CARDIEL. In the band’s early years they played many skateboard-related shows and contests in different cities of México. In 2011, they performed in several screenings of the documentary ‘Piel Concreto’, produced by Vans México and directed by Nito Escalante, which shows the beginnings and influence of skateboarding in México. They also were part of the ‘Puro Gallo’ skateboarding brand “Pacifico Tour”, where they played in different classic skate and surf spots along the Mexican Pacific Coast in order to promote and spread the culture of skateboarding. Furthermore, CARDIEL performed in the 30th Anniversary of ‘Thrasher Magazine’ and Vans 50 Years ‘Van Doren Afternoon Special in the Park’ with bands such as Bad Shit, Trash Talk and Anti-Flag. Furthemore, they played at the opening of “House of Vans Mexico City” (2021). In 2017 the band was invited to be part of the iconic tour of Thrasher Magazine “Skate Rock” in México, where an epic crew of more than 30 people including professional skateboarders, filmers, photographers and bands toured different mexican cities led by Thrasher Magazine Editor in Chief ‘Jake Phelps.’ CARDIEL has performed in the following international festivals: “Corona Hell & Heaven Fest 2018” (México) where the headliners were artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Deep Purple and Judas Priest. “SonicBlast 2019” (Portugal) “SXSW Music Festival 2015 and 2017” (Austin, Texas, USA) “4 Extraños Fest 2015” (Colombia) “Festival Marvin 2015” (México) “Monterreal Longboard Fest 2013 y 2014” (México) “Festival Internacional Palafoxiano 2011” (México) “MonkeyBee Festival 2021” (México) The band has also toured in different countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Panamá, Argentina, Venezuela, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Austria and Germany. CARDIEL has been supporting act for: Pennywise, Radio Moscow, Valient Thorr, Teenage Bottlerocket, Torche, American Sharks, Monolord, H2O, Green Jelly, Nani Guru (Acid Mother Temple), Ratos de Porão, Cosmonauts, The Oh Sees, AJ Dávila, among many others. The band has appeared in print magazines such as Thrasher Magazine (USA) (August 2012 and April 2017), Drop In Magazine (MX) (March 2012), Stand/By Magazine (Costa Rica) (2018), 7 Capas Magazine (Argentina) (Enero 2014), Indie Rocks Magazine (México) (May 2017) and Marvin Magazine (México) (May 2015), among others. CARDIEL appeared on the Mexican television channel Canal Once show “Especiales Musicales de Central 11” (EMCO), which featured an hour dedicated to the band with a live performance and several interviews. The band has also appeared on the Costa Rican TV show MAP. In 2019, they did a live session/interview for the Mexican radio station ‘Aire Libre 103.3 FM’. CARDIEL’s music has been featured in several skate/surf videos of different companies such as Quiksilver, Tricolor Skates, Rata Wheels, Drop In, Puro Gallo, Vans, Casta Propaganda, Indahigh. In 2017 the band did a Pabst Wax Session for the beer company PBR USA during the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX. The live recording was printed at the moment on 7’’ vinyl. Miguel and Samantha are both audio engineers. They own a recording studio located in Mexico City called ‘Vesubio Grabaciones’ where they have produced and recorded all Cardiel’s albums and several other bands.
